It is absolutely ridiculous that I haven't blogged in 2 months. I get that. Thankfully, I have been so busy over the past months that I have barely had time to do my actual work, let alone update my blog. Every time I thought about posting, I would get a guilty feeling about the work waiting that really *had* to get done.

Anyway, the current blog site I use is rather cumbersome to update, and in addition to moving away from a flash style website, it has necessitated a change in web presence. We are working on a brand new website and blog and we hope to have it uploaded soon, so we appreciate your patience. The hope is that our new site will make it much easier to integrate photos quickly, and make blogging and updating the site MUCH easier and faster.

WE are so excited for the change, and are looking forward to unveiling it soon!

I met Nick and Ashley at the wedding of Nick's sister a couple of summers ago, and it was clear right from that day that Nick was a character. He's a great guy, with a great sense of humour, and I loved that he did a great job putting up with all of our photo requests on their big day, even though posing for photos is not his favorite thing. Of course, it helps when there is a bride as beautiful as Ashley standing by his side! ;)

We also had the pleasure of working along side Jim McCarten and his wife Sherri from The Storeyteller, a videography company from the Belleville area. It's not often I get to work with videographers, but they were wonderful. I look forward to seeing the clips from the Speakers Corner booth! :)

Family Photos by the Water...

I get lots of calls from families who want to have their family session done at the lake during the summer months. It can be tricky to schedule them with the summer schedule as busy as it is, but when it works out, it's a lovely thing!

I will be seeing this family again this summer when the youngest is a flower girl in one of my upcoming weddings!

It's been a whirlwind of weddings this year, and I am falling behind in my blogging!

Kelly and Shane are a fun and relaxed couple who know how to have a good time. Kelly runs a wedding decorating business, and we were definately not disappointed when we saw the decor for the hall. Victoria Hall is always beautiful, but on Kelly's wedding day, it truly shone!

It seemed like we had waited for Steph and PJ's wedding for nearly 2 years....by the time it finally arrived it was well worth the wait! Steph had a pile of relatives visiting for the occasion from Ireland, and I can assure you, if you have never been to an Irish wedding, you'll be wanting to sample one! I absolutely loved all the singing and festivities, and I swear that my next wedding is going to be an Irish one! ;)

Natalie and Adam were one of the most chill couples I have ever met! When we arrived to shoot their wedding we found them hanging out on the porch together a few hours before the ceremony! Nothing preserves the memory of those first amazing weeks of life like a newborn session. We recommend you bring your new baby in within the first week if at all possible. This is when you will be most likely to get those beautiful 'squishy' baby photos that are so beautiful. Babies grow and change so rapidly, this stage is over in a blink of an eye. These are always the photos parents will tell me that they are so glad they came in for.

Sir Jonathan Field is the owner of Cobourg Tae Kwon Do, and the instructor of a fantastic kick-boxing class that I take. Recently I did some promotional photos for a couple of his classes and I was really impressed by his students. Not only are they learning a fantastic skill and staying active, but they are also learning patience, self-control, respect and discipline, all qualities that are fantastic to see young people developing. What a great place!!!

It's been ages since I had a chance to update the blog!

The summer has been so busy, and we have been working non-stop with weddings and portraits, all the while renovating and moving into our new space. I am going to take the next couple of weeks and share some of the things we have been up to in the studio!

These gorgeous little cuties are cousins who were in with their moms for individual sessions back to back. During the cross-over, we photographed them together to have a few great shots of all the kids together.

It's a great way to get the most out of your portrait session!

Yesterday I photographed the family of a client of mine who showed up to her session with a big surprise for me. She came in the the new studio bearing a very large box. Knowing she is an awesome cake creator, I had a pretty good idea what was in the box. I was excited about the idea of some awesome cake, but I couldn't believe what I saw when I opened the box!!!!

People often ask what the best time is to photograph a newborn baby. Of course, I always tell them THE MINUTE YOU CAN!!! :) If possible, I encourage my clients with new babies to bring them in when they are mere days old. The babies are so soft and squishy and they are so easy to work with at this age! They are so nice and sleepy, and they photographs that come from these sessions are truly precious, as the little ones change so very fast.

Karen and her family have been to me many, many times, and it was with great joy that I photographed the newest addition to the family, Baby Brodyn. Many, many congratulations to you both, and thank you for letting me share in your celebration!

FIRST SESSION in the New Studio!!!

It just so happened that my very first session in my new space happened to be a Personal Session! I really love being able to use natural light in my sessions. It's going to mean lots of new ideas and possibilities for my clients, and I am really excited about that! Jenna (a good friend and local photographer) has been working hard and in her first month of P90X fitness program, and she is looking amazing! Thanks for letting me share these, Jenna!

From the first night at soccer when I was in full meltdown mode, to my proud return from New York where you totally WOW'ed me with the 'grand reveal'! Your vision is something I am so proud of today. Thankyou!!!!

And last but not least...to my assistant Carolyn: You painted, sanded, painted again, cut-in, cut-out, hammered, sawed and worked like a woman possessed! There isn't a square inch of my studio that doesn't have some effort of yours on my behalf. You are a true friend, and an amazing person and I would have never got through all that work without you. I can't thank you enough!!!!

New Studio News!

First let me apologize for the slowness of the blog in the past month....I will be posting studio photos very soon, but there is a good reason for the delay! :)

Things have been CRAZY busy around here lately, in anticipation of opening our NEW STUDIO location! :) We have been painting, building, and doing tons of work in preparation for opening at 15 King St. in Colborne. We are about 70% finished, and hope to shoot clients here by the second week of August. We are currently taking no new bookings for sessions before August 10th, except for maternity and newborn, which will continue to be done in the previous studio.

I am so excited to have such a huge space both for meeting clients for consultations, and for shooting in. The new studio has a dedicated area for both, as well as lots of room to hang prints and to do production work. I couldn't have done it without the help of my awesome crew...I can't thank you enough Carolyn, Jennifer, Warren and Trish!!!

Here's a quick iPhone snap of the shooting room floor in progress....it's going to be gorgeous! (Thanks to my right-hand woman, Carolyn, for pretty much single-handedly laying yet another beautiful laminate floor in my studio!)

I shot this beautiful wedding on one of the most gorgeous days I have seen in a long time. I have shot the bride and her family in the past, and have always been warmed by how much love is in their family. When Dad saw his daughter in her dress for the first time, I witnessed one of the most beautiful reactions I have ever seen. There aren't too many times that I get teary-eyed at weddings, but I was full on ready to cry. :) I am always so happy to be part of a celebration where the families are so connected and have such a strong bond.

This wedding party was hilarious, totally full of fun and ready to be photographed! We had a great time with all of them! Big wedding parties are my favorite to shoot, as there is lots of ways to introduce drama and excitement in the photos with posing and lighting.

This wedding shoot reminded me of how much I totally love my job, and the ability to work with the most amazing brides and grooms around! Thank you both for letting me share in your celebration!!! :)

This little one was just a few days old when her parents brought her in for her first family photo. This session was a lovely gift from Mom's sister who called me ages ago to set it up for them. These moments don't last long, and they change so fast...it won't be long before Mom and Dad hardly remember what the brand-new baby stage looked like. Photos like these will be a precious reminder of that fleeting time!

Kids Being Kids...

I really appreciate it so much when Mom's and Dad's are able to let their little ones be themselves, without any pressure to smile for the camera. I had fun working with this family, and the kids were awesome too. Big sister was a total ham, and the camera loved her! Her little brother was slower to warm up, but he had so much personality when he was camera ready!

We got a ton of great shots, and lots of photos of the kids being kids, and that's what I love to see! Thanks guys!

It is wonderful to see large families recognizing the importance of family photos together. Recently Joanna called me to come out for a multi-generational family photo that was a gift for her Grandmother from all the kids. Her Grandma is an amazing lady, full of fun and sauciness, and I really enjoyed meeting her and all of the family. If the sun hadn't started to fall I do believe we would have been out there for another hour or two shooting! I love to photograph babies just as they are beginning to sit up. It's truly the best time to get an incredible session. They are so happy and engaged and just thrilled to be able to look around on their own! :) This little beauty was in recently for some family photos....I just love it when Mom brings a christening gown or other kind of fancy white dress. 'Trash the Dress' Gets Some Local Attention! :)

Faithful blog readers will already know that we've been doing this for awhile, but this week on the Star 93.3 morning show I was on the radio to share some info on one of my favorite post-wedding photo shoots, Trash The Dress.

I have done quite a few of these, and have blogged some of my favorites....even one with a video as well! I have also talked about how Trash the Dress is NOT for everyone and provided an alternative way to be photographed after your wedding without ruining your treasured heirloom.

It was really fun 'meeting' Joel on the radio, and talking about one of my favorite subjects, even if I do sound like a nutjob and my kids are hollering in the background for part of it! lol! Thanks to Star 93.3 for the opportunity to talk about it, and for linking to me from the website. MUCH appreciated!

Crystal and Jason ~ E-Session

The engagement (and wedding) season has begun in full swing, and we have been out in the evenings to photograph this years crop of blushing brides and handsome grooms. I must say we've also been fighting a few swarms of knats and bees and other such fantastical creatures as well...no one can say there isn't an element of danger in this biz! ;)

Crystal and Jason are such a sweet couple, and they were so easy and fun to work with. I am really looking forward to their fall wedding, and to seeing some old friends party like it's 1999 (you know who you are! ;) )

Recently a client of mine came in to the studio to bring her youngest daughter for the tradition of being photographed in her First Communion dress. It's always so beautiful to see these little girls dressed up like tiny little brides for such a big day.

We decided we would try to photograph a bunch of the girls in her class together if we could make it work. I mean, if one tiny little bride is cute, imagine a whole bunch of them?!! :)

We all met on a chilly afternoon a couple of weeks ago to shoot them together, and I am so glad we did. What a memory these little ladies now have to remember such a special event in their lives together. Thanks to all of you for participating, and to all the parents who got everyone down there in snow white dresses, and kept them all clean throughout the shoot! :)

I photographed Rachel's maternity session a short while ago, and was thrilled to meet the newest member of the family a few days after her birth. I had to include the middle photo, as it is the biggest smile I have EVER seen on a week old baby in my LIFE. I could not believe that she was so happy already, and judging from how great she was at our session, Mom and Dad have a very content little doll in their care. :)

BIG STUDIO NEWS!!!!

I am so excited to finally be sharing with everyone that I have taken a store front location in Colborne, and will be opening a commercial location this summer! :) I can't share all the details yet, but the new home of Gerri Photography will be opening late summer, with a Grand Opening in September. I am really excited to be able to offer my clients a bigger location, more sets, limited edition shoots, and other new products and services.

It is amazing to think that my studio has experienced enough growing pains to neccessitate a move to a commercial space!!! I am wild with excitement, and I can't wait to begin seeing clients there! Watch the blog for grand opening information and specials that can only be found on the blog!

The Fun of Second Shooting! :)

I had the awesome opportunity recently to second shoot for the first time ever! I hung out for a day with the awesome Jenna in Wellington for the wedding of Meghan and Nicholas. We had a blast, and I must admit, it was so incredible knowing that every possible angle was getting covered by one of us. We had a great time, and we got some fantastic shots of the day! :)

Bridal Noire!

A few weeks ago we met with Ashleigh to create some very moody and non-traditional bridal portraits after her recent February wedding. We really enjoy these post-wedding sessions (sometimes called 'Trash The Dress' sessions) but always felt that the name left a bit to be desired for lots of folks. Bridal Noire is a bit darker, a bit edgier then your average wedding day photos, but these photos won't leave your beloved gown filthy or in tatters either. ;) In a nutshell, it's another chance to get dolled up and be a fantastic diva for a day, with or without the groom. ;)

As it wraps up for another year, the tradition of honouring Mom's around the world has reminded everyone to cherish the one that brought you into this world, and who *may* have threatened to take you out of it a time or two.

I have to reflect on the two magical little beings that have given me the most special job I will ever take on. Its hours are long, and sometimes exhausting. There are many times when I am overcome by frustration, anger, and a sense of hopelessness that these little humans will never take on enough interest in their surroundings to be productive members of society. However, those days are more than outnumbered by the ones where I find a collection of little love notes on my desk, declaring me the true love of their little lives. I am overcome by the irony of it all when I see how my own words and actions begin to emerge from them, and they use my own careful logic against me. :) Every day that they walk away from me in any way, it reminds me that these are steps closer to their own independance, and that they are essentially in a constant state of growing up and away from me. When they wrap their little arms around my neck and I breathe in their beautiful, sweet smell I am humbled by the power of the love I have for them.

How deliciously bittersweet to be a Mommy. Such an awesome responsibility, and such a immeasurable joy. I love you Olivia and Tanis. :) Thank you for coming into my world and turning me into a Mommy. Much love xoxoxo

I Love Photo Peeps!

I had the great pleasure of giving my first group presentation to the Brighton Digital Photography Special Interest Group this morning and I had a really fantastic time. The SIG is a membership of people who enjoy photography and are constantly learning more to improve their photos. I was asked by a member to come and do a presentation on digitally restoring old photographs, and I thoroughly enjoyed speaking. It's been years since I did any kind of teaching, and I had forgotten how much fun it was. Thank you George for inviting me, and Bruce for introducing me to the group and helping me with the photoshop demonstrations. I hope we can get together again for some more in-depth work in the future!

I would also like to remind people that announcing your plans on Facebook is not an acceptable way to inform your vendors of the cancellation of your contract with them. You need to notify all parties involved in a timely fashion to allow them to attempt to rebook your date.

We met up with Amy and Kyle last week to shoot their fusion engagement session. It was another beautiful evening down at the water. There is one word of caution, however. One should be aware that certain days in early spring can bring a yield of flying gnats, the likes of which have only been seen in horror films.....(like OMG!!!!!!!)

I was doing some shooting this week and I had to send some props out to my new BFF Kenneth Bell from Bling On King on King St. in Cobourg. He has the most awesome store and I absolutely love his stuff! Sometimes a girl just needs a little bling in her life, and when she see's that it is currently 50% off every little bit of bling in the store, well....a girl needs to GET SOME!!!! I just loaded up on a few trinkets for myself (because I deserve it! ;) ) and because accessories (unlike pants) always fit! ;) I know there are lots of ladies out there that need something pretty, and lots of men that are looking to help their kids find some really great Mother's Day Gifts. I can't help but share an awesome deal! :)

Two Times the Fun!

My very dear friend came by with her two BEAUTIFUL little men for me to play with! Today it was just the twins, as their big brother was at school, so we had some fun in the studio. These two have the most infectious, gigantic smiles, and their parents are so hilarious it's hard to keep a straight face around the bunch of them! :)

OH BABIES! Double Maternity :)

I got a call from a Mom recently with a request I don't hear every day! It turns out that both of her daughters are pregnant, and due within 7 weeks of each other! She requested a double maternity session for her girls, to commemorate this amazing time in their lives. I met both ladies this afternoon, and we had so much fun creating some fun images. Marsha is expecting a girl, and Krista is expecting a boy, so as long as those ultrasounds were correct, we will have the appropriate colours for the babies' rooms! :) Thanks for being so much fun ladies, and I look forward to seeing you both again with your newest bundles of joy! :)

I just got the most amazing email sent to me from one of my blog readers. It's so worth reading, I have asked her to allow me to share it, albeit anonymously.

She was speaking of this blog post from earlier in the year.

It was the one about not wanting to have your picture taken because of your hair or not having your makeup done etc. It's so true, and we do it all the time. I'm always deleting the pics that aren't perfect in MY eyes. And you're right... our kids don't care how we look, they just love us. Amber and Damien ~ Engaged

I met Amber and Damien for our long awaited engagement session recently. These two have a love story that has lasted since they were in high school! They first met in a sandbox in kindergarten, and that is exactly where Damien planned to propose to Amber. In addition to a welcoming a second child into their family last year, and planning a wedding, Damien recently joined the Cobourg Police, and he is completing his training to be an officer. The future looks very, very bright for you both, and I am so happy to share in your celebration! :)

I got a call from Melanie last week to inquire about maternity photos. When I inquired when her due date was, she admitted it was in less than 2 weeks!!! We really had to hustle them in to get the job done before the new babe made its way into the world!

This couple was so easy going, and they were absolutely fantastic to work with, and very patient with me while I played 'mad scientist' in the studio! :)

A Pretty Little Ginger!

Once again, I admit to my weakness for redheads. :)

Recently this pretty little red head was in to see me again with her parents to celebrate her first birthday. I'm finding it hard to believe how fast all these little people grow, but when faced with the evidence, I can't deny it! Her parents brought lots of things to use in our session, and I always love it when people bring in team jerseys, dance recital costumes and other fun things to their session. Generic props are nice, but it's even better when you can find a way to incorporate some of your own family flavour into your photos!

Baby Boom!

It seems like there is a bit of a baby boom on lately at the studio. I have seen so many gorgeous little boys and girls, and brand new big brothers and sisters in the past few months. I was happy to welcome back my old school mate Joe and his wife Rhonda when they recently brought in their little man. They were in to see me for maternity photos a while back, and I couldn't believe how big their little guy is already! And sooooo gorgeous!!! Check out those CHEEKS!!! (both sets... ;)

I have always loved shooting women, and helping them see how absolutely beautiful they are. Recently, Ashley came in for some really fun photos as a gift for someone special. Ashley did our Boudoir Glam package, which included hair, makeup and a 5x7 album of prints!

We had a blast, and she was absolutely stunning....I just love how these turned out!

Vern is a local personal trainer who has been preparing to compete in the recent Fame 2009 Bodybuilding competition, and he came to see me the day before he competed. He was in such fantastic shape from a lot of hard work and dedication, and it was amazing to see it all come together for him! I look forward to seeing him and his lovely wife for some more photos in the future, as he prepares for another upcoming competition.

Old Friends!

I first met this gorgeous little lady when she was the flower girl at Crystal and Shane's wedding a couple of years back. She was the tiniest little flower girl, and did a great job all day long!

It was with great excitement that I greeted her, her parents, and her new baby brother for a recent session. I have already gotten several calls from friends who have seen the photos and want to book, so I am sending a huge thank you to these fabulous little kids for making me look so good!!! :)

I was getting all depressed about getting old (er) and then I decided to stop being such an idiot and share my birthday with some of my favorite peeps. This year we got an early start on the annual Dance School photos for Jennifer's Jazz it Up's competition kids. Many of these dancers are involved in several (or more!) dance numbers in groups and solos, so it can get pretty crazy when we try to get all of it done in one day. We shot all day a few weeks ago, and got some fantastic photos!

Newborn babies are so sweet to photograph...they are literally tiny little blank slates who are nice and bendy! :) The earlier their mommies and daddies bring them in, the better! I photographed this little beauty about a year after I met her Mommy and Daddy for a large family portrait session. I was thrilled they remembered me when they started their own little family. Congrats on your beautiful, beautiful little doll! :)

I had the pleasure of photographing the live event from Jennifer's Jazz It Up Capitol Theatre performance last month, and I was so impressed with these tiny dancers! They are so dedicated and professional....it was really amazing to watch them perform! The teachers and the parents should be so proud of these talented kids!!!

That's right folks....the birds are chirping, the world is starting to come alive with spring.....the wedding season will soon be upon us! :)

Of course, no wedding plan is complete without some engagement photos, and I was out with Andres and Lyndsey recently to shoot theirs. They are the first couple to choose a Fusion Engagement package. I love how this turned out, and I am very excited to offer this to my couples who are looking for something really special that can be used in their wedding reception, as a DVD to share with friends and family, or as a Facebook or Myspace video.

Education is Key

I believe in Education.

I don't think there is a single career whose participants do not benefit from learning more about what they do, and how to do it better.

I just returned from another 5 day workshop, my second this year. I spent a week in sunny (and humid!) Bonita Springs, Florida for an incredible experience of working day and night with a group of photographers who are revolutionary in their field.

I went with some awesome local photographers (here we are as a matter of fact!) and we TOTALLY soaked up the knowledge.

We did NOT, however, soak up the sun. As a matter of fact, I did not even go outside of the resort except for an hour of shooting with a couple of models. Hard to believe people go to Florida and don't go for the weather! :)

I learned so much, and had an awesome time seeing some old friends and meeting some great new ones. In an age where everyone has a digital camera, professionals need more skill than ever before to set themselves apart in business. Luckily, I am up for the challenge!!!

Blast From the Past....

I was out with Val from Northumberland Kids today doing our regular hunt for magazine photos to create, when we happened across a great bunch of kids from my old high school, CDCI West.

Seeing them reminded me of the days when I used to hang out on the front steps in the very same spot, as students have done for decades. They have their whole lives ahead of them, and have so many opportunities to discover. It gives me goosebumps to think that the only thing that separates me from them is 20 odd years. ;) Those were the days!

Of course, we had to ask them if they would pose for us, and surprisingly, they didn't hesitate to memorialize the moment for posterity's sake. Thanks guys, for the trip down memory lane, and for being such great sports! :)

Recent Ramblings....

I recently returned from an incredible wedding photography convention in the US, and I have returned feeling inspired and creative. The opportunity to study with some of the most influencial wedding photographers in this field is one that should not be missed by anyone who wants to continue to learn and grow in the world of photography. That is how we keep our skills fresh, learn new techniques and ideas, and stay on the cutting edge of the industry. In this very competitive day and age, where everyone has a fantastic digital camera and the ability to take photos, it is creativity and a desire to stay fresh that will keep a photographer in business. I want to be inspired, creative, and fresh for my clients. My clients are well informed and they know what they like. To keep up, I must continually learn and grow. I will never be finished in this journey to be better, to push harder...to make my images come alive.

If you are not staying ahead...you are falling behind. Believe it!!!! :)

Another thing I took away from this convention was the reminder that photography provides us all with a lasting reminder of the life we have lived. While I was away, it was with great sadness that I learned two very good clients and friends lost their lives in a tragic car accident, leaving loving husbands and familes behind to mourn. As I made my way to visit with the families, it was obvious that the photos displayed brought so many people comfort and happiness. Sometimes I will refuse to allow myself to be photographed because I didn't fix my hair, my make up, or lose that nagging 50lbs that has haunted me my whole life. :) I kid, but in there is some truth. I am turning down countless opportunities to make tangible reminders of the fantastic life I am living.

No more.

While I was away, I decided that I wasn't going to stop having my picture taken for something as silly as the way my hair looks. My children love me....they don't care if I just came back from the salon, freshly cut and coloured, or if I just rolled out of bed. This is what I am going to remind myself. I hope there will be some of you for whom this idea will resonate. I am going to encourage every parent to get in the photo with their child...no more waiting around for a better day.

Today is that day. :)

It's not very often that I have the pleasure of shooting a bride and groom on a Friday afternoon! What's a newlywed couple to do after they get hitched at Victoria Hall ?

It's always nice to share in a couple's wedding day, but it's extra-nice to be able to have the time to photograph them in a relaxed and unhurried way! Okay....in an effort to catch up with the blogging stuff, I am randomly pulling some pictures I should have blogged ages ago. I might never get around to posting everything I should.

One day you might log onto the blog and find some lovely baby photos of your neighbour's kid. Don't be confused if that kid is already in high school. Sometimes I get a *bit* behind in the old blogging....but I am tryin' to catch up! ;)

So here's a few from the 'Holy CRAP That Was A Long Time Ago!' file. :)

Way back in the fall I took the kiddies out with the intention of getting some cute family photos that we could use in Christmas cards for friends and family. Well, as things tend to, best laid plans went awry and time got away from me...no Christmas cards were sent out this year (my bad!) However, even though the cards never made it out, the photos are on the wall and I have some great pics of my little dolls. Crossing my fingers for next year! :)

It's true....I have something to confess.

Are you ready?

I am the worlds worst blogger. There. I said it. Whew. Feels good to admit it.

Sometimes I have such big ambitious dreams of blogging up a storm....uploading pics, being chatty and fun....but it all goes to pot when I get busy.

I got a bit busy last year. Pretty busy indeed. I don't even remember the last time I blogged.

It's kind of like starting an exercise program.

You say: "Today's the day I start working out again! I will exercise every day until I look and feel amazing!" With the best intentions you start, but then you stray. You wake up months later in a small mountain of cheeto bags and decide you have TOTALLY let things get out of control!!! Things have GOT to change. I have to blog more often!!!! I need to blog more often!!!! I keep saying I am going to blog this or that, and I wake up and realize it has been MONTHS AND MONTHS since my last post!!!! UGH!!!! Terrible!!!!

I am going to try harder to keep it up. I love what I do, and I want to share that with my blog readers (if there are any left!!!)

I have been busy in my downtime, and have been training in the US with some amazing photographers in order to become better at what I love to do. I have also built a brand new website with a new logo, which I will be going live with today!!!! :)

So stay tuned....things are going to be different!

This wedding was years in the making, and the bride had me tentatively booked before she was even engaged! I have been shooting Brittany's family for years, and it was with great joy that I shot their recent wedding. The families were wonderful, and of course it was fabulous to see everyone again! This was one wedding that I knew was going to be an awesome party....the bride and groom and the entire wedding party had so much personality and they were ready to PARTY as soon as the deed was done! :) As was the theme this entire wedding season, rain threatened to fall here and there, but it did nothing to dampen everyone's enjoyment of the day.
As a side note, the Lion's Center looked absolutely incredible...if anyone knows who did the decor, I'd love to leave a link in my blog! Truly elegant!!!

As it turns out, I am a big fan of Michaels, and was turn on to some of his work by my brother. He is one of the stars behind "My Drunken Dad", an internet series that makes me howl. Working with these two was as easy as can be, and it was fun to watch Michael (who is in video production) direct his own wedding video! They were both so much fun to work with, and I look forward to more projects in the future! :)

Jenn and Rob were married on a gorgeous day (one of the few truly un-rainy days this season!) at Occasions By the Bay in Trenton. We've been waiting for this day for a long time, and I was very excited to work with a couple who were so willing to let me do whatever I wanted with them....hehehe.....

We had a blast, and except for the mosquito bites, no wedding party members were harmed in the making of these images.... ;)

This beautiful couple have been to see me for a family photo before, but this time they were back in preparation for starting a family of their own. I don't often get a chance to post maternity photos, because of the nature of them, but I have permission this time, and I'm happy to be able to show them off. As of today, we are still waiting on the baby to make his or her grand entrance, but I am very excited to meet the new member of the family!

Old Friends are the Best Kind....

Over the March Break, I had a chance to head up to Guelph, the home of my university years, and many a night spent at the Mustang Ranch. ;) I stayed with a dear friend that I've known since way back when, and her two fantastic boys. It was surreal to be there with so much of my past, and so much of the future as well. Noella, you are as fantastic a friend now as you were way back then, and I'm so glad to have had the chance to photograph you and your boys. I can't wait to come back and see you again when it's not -10 degrees out!!! lol! (Your boys are total troupers!!!)

In a funny aside to this story, my oldest daughter has been mooning around ever since we returned. Apparently she has fallen deeply in love with 14 year old Noah and cannot wait to get back to hang out with him. She is certain that he is her true love....well, at least this week she is! ;)

What an amazing time we had at the wedding of these two people...truly one of the most fun and easy-going couples we have ever had the pleasure to work with. They had a great sense of adventure and fun, and didn't even bat an eye when we went outside in the absolutely frigid temperatures to get the shot! They were married at a beautiful little spot just north of Belleville, and it was such a gorgeous intimate place for a ceremony.

Convention!

As many of you know, I spent a week in February at a photography convention in Orlando, Florida, learning as much as I can about the job that I love to do. I was lucky enough to study with such amazing photographers as David Jay, Jenn Hillenga, Joy and Garrett Nudd, Doug Box, Craig Minelly, Mike Fulton, and Suzy Roberts. It was truly an amazing learning experience, and being with so many amazing photographer friends just made it even better. We had a chance to shoot together in our off-time, and it was so fun working together. I truly cannot wait until the next convention, as it provides a chance to learn, reflect, grow and change as a professional. Every time I come home from one of these workshops, I truly marvel at the changes in my work I see right away. I can't wait to see what the next year brings professionally, and to see my photography continue to improve. I don't want my clients to have 'nice photos'....I want them to have lasting heirlooms of their time together with the people they love. I look forward to helping you create those! :)

My Baby...

I don't often post pics of my own kids, but it's not because I never take them. I do occasionally pull the camera out just for the heck of it, but admittedly it's not often enough. This, coupled with the fact that my own kids, particularily my youngest, often greet me with a snarl that is neither winning, nor particularily photo-worthy, make photo-taking occasions few and far between. However, not that long ago, my youngest withdrew her snarl long enough for me to capture a few beautiful photos of her. This is what she really looks like to me.... :)

Having recently had my first tattoo, I can totally understand why people feel compelled to have important events and significant milestones incorporated into their body artwork. One of my favorite clients (and old friend!) Steve made a request to incorporate his two boys into a photo with the artwork he has had done as a testiment to both his sons, and his family crest. I love the artwork, and I love this photo. If you have a special tattoo that you would like photographed, there is no time like the present!

Finally Mom gets the gift she's been waiting for....family pics with all of the men in her life! These fellows were good enough to get nicely dressed and coiffed so Mom could have some great pics of all of them together. It's such a great idea to snag the kids for a nice family photo just before they all start to leave the nest for lives away at college and university. :)

If you've been at a wedding with me this past year, chances are you've met my assistant, Steve. He's hard to miss....at 6'4", and with a full head of curly red hair, you are definately going to spot him in a crowd. I've had people tell me that they couldn't remember me, but know who I was because they recalled seeing Steve with me at a function. He's a great kid with a huge future, and he's been an awesome assistant to me over the past year. He's also carried hundreds of pounds of gear over the past year for me, and never complained once. Since we just wrapped up our last wedding of the year a few weeks back, I thought I would commemorate the occasion with a look back on the many faces of my assistant, Steve....

I recieved an email from Maurico from far away Calgary to arrange the details for his mid-week, mid-December wedding to his fiancee Monica. We did all of our arranging over the phone, so by the time the wedding rolled around, it felt like they were old friends. It was great to meet you both, and share in your beautiful celebration!

The Chanteuse and the Magic Man...

Beth (who is a singer) and Jamie (Magician extraorinaire) had an exciting secret wedding planned in November, and they asked me to join them a few weeks before hand at the historic Victoria Hall for some secret engagement photos. We had a blast using the stage and the hall to our every advantage. Since there was no pressure to stick to a strict timeline, we had lots of fun trying out some new ideas. Shortly after these were done, I recieved a beautiful thankyou gift in the mail from the lovely couple, and I wanted to make sure I let them know who much their thoughtfulness was appreciated! As it turns out, I am photographing the wedding of Beths son and daughter-in-law-to-be in the Summer of 2009, so we will get a chance to work together soon!
